Re: FL State Regulation - Miami Daily Business Review
"It took Florida lawmakers at least four years to pass a law regulating home inspectors"
"four years"?
More like 16 years. I was part of the group which first went to Tallahassee in 1991 for licensing. I worked on it until maybe around 2002 or so. I offered up a couple of bills which would have had real requirements, but those against licensing cried foul - too stringent and too many requirements, then, when licensing was passed with no real requirements, they cried foul - too weak and meaningless.
All they really wanted was, and still is, "no licensing" and they would cry foul over whatever they could, regardless of whether or not they had to change their stance, to try to stop licensing. Have no pity on those people - their lack of positive interaction lead to what is there now. They can cry foul, but the blame is squarely on their shoulders.

Re: FL State Regulation - Miami Daily Business Review
Jerry, you really should consider coming out of retirement, the circus is always in need of dependable fortune tellers, I'll bet you can even guess my weight.
Jerry is once again right on the money there are a vast number of home inspectors who believe that government intervention into our profession will in the end prove to be nothing more then another tax on our living which provides nothing but revenue for the state.
There is no shame in being anti-licensing, Suncoast ASHI & most of FLASHI were against this bill and previous attempts to wrest away our liberty under the guise of consumer protection. The Senator who foisted this bill on the legislature (Wise) did so because the range in a home his mother purchased did not work correctly after the home was inspected, the man much like you Jerry is clueless about who we are and what we do.
With the housing crash and the reversal of the new construction market the state is left with tourism as its only source of real outside revenue, couple that with the possibility of a national recession and it looks doubtful that the state will decide to piss away money it doesn't have on this fool's errand. My guess is that nothing is done in 2010 and no one will notice.
